How to paint a staircase banister without sanding

Ok so I wanted to paint our staircase banister but I did not want to sand it, not only is it messy but there are alot of grooves and details that would not be fun to sand. So after lots of research I came up with this process. I used what I had on hand and just crossed my fingers it would work......

Here is the banister before
First I used a primer that I had from another project.....
I used 2 thin coats of this

Then I used the same Behr latex paint that I used on all of our trim. Color- Snow White.
This step took 3 coats and after the second coat I was over this project lol

In between every coat I let it dry overnight

Then final step is 2 coats of this....This will seal everything and give it a nice glossy finish.

There it is....I will say that I am very pleased with the results however it was one of the most irritating projects Ive done. Mainly because of how many coats I had to do. But if you are patient you can save a ton of money by just painting your banister or any other wooden furniture you have.

A little paint = A LOT of change

When we purchased our home we made a list of all the cosmetic issues we wanted to change....well the biggest one was the exterior color. We HATED the blue....we planned on changing the siding to a more neutral color. Well after we moved in it was winter so we started on all the interior changes and well here we are 3 years later with a new baby and down to 1 income. And well the blue kinda grew on us. Then me being me brought up the idea of embracing the blue. Of course my hubby looked at me with that "huh" look but I was persistent and got him on board with painting the shutters a darker blue...it has to be better right? Well you decide....

Needless to say we now LOVE the color of our home! And I literally spent $7 on a quart of paint =)

MY TIP: Invest in a paint sprayer for the shutters....I used a brush and it took me forever to do and 2 coats plus touch up.

Black Interior Doors

What?!? Black Interior doors?!?! Yea I know I was nervous too, but after a few months of seeing more and more pictures of them on Pinterest I decided to take the plunge and just do it, I mean whats the worst that could happen? We would hate it and Id have to re-paint them? Well you will soon find out that I have no problems painting and actually enjoy it for the most part.

So here is my entry way before....( I actually had just painted them white because I was sick of the "builder white" that was slightly off from the trim color)

And now here it is now....I used Behr Interior Latex Paint color- Stealth Jet

I cannot even begin to explain how pleased my Husband and I are with this drastic change. The color really warms up the home and gives it a rich look. Im currently in the process of painting the rest....
