Kitchen Area Under Construction

Well after months and months of watching the DIY network almost 24/7 I finally decided to tackle our kitchen....we have a very large kitchen and luckily we love the layout but unfortunately its very circa 1990's. Now most people would shell out thousands of dollars to remodel a kitchen, but for me I would rather work on it myself, save alot of money and in the end be able to say I DID IT ALL MYSELF. I take a lot of pride in learning to do new things =)

Now since Im a stay at home mom of a 14 month old and I also nanny my 4 month old nephew 4 days a week I am only able to do the work little by little (mainly nap times and when the hubby is home). So I will update this as I progress....

The Dining room pre-remodel

The Dining Room now.....(all it needed was paint)

Staircase connected to the dining room Pre-Remodel
Now...
Still need to paint the trim around the door and the handrail white then replace the door

Here is the staircase banister and instead of replacing it I will be refinishing it with hard white enamel

Now for the fun part!!! The Kitchen.......

Pre-Remodel

Now the picture doesnt really show the ugly details (Ill be sure to post detail pics as I go)

Goals
  1. Paint trim white
  2. Paint walls and soffit Behr paint color- Hawaiian Cinder
  3. Mosiac tile backsplash
  4. Refinish/paint the ugly light blue laminate counters to look like granite (I will post step by step)
  5. Stain the cabinets a walnut/java brown color
  6. Replace pantry door

Progress so far....

*Walls and Soffits painted...already a huge improvement. Next up back splash and paint the ceiling light fixture  =)

Painted ceiling light fixture. We were going to replace it with one we liked at Home Depot ($200) but instead I painted it using the same paint Im using on the interior doors. Cost = a half hour of my time and a little paint!
